So What Have I Learnt From My Audience Feedback?
  • Good Points:
  • Main Product -
  • A lot people commented on the professional look of all aspects of my coursework (main task and ancillaries). Most comment stated how my products were similar to real media texts. This was what I was aiming for as it I was trying to make my product seem as genuine as possible.
  • Choice of typography throughout is good for the look of authenticity. It worked well for the audience that the newspaper is aimed at. Again, a lot of people that commented said how the typography that I used in my work was similar to real media texts.
  • A lot of people felt that the addition of the crest was a good idea. By doing this it adds a sense of authenticity, seeming established and trustworthy. The symbol of having a crest on the newspaper instantly makes the style of article instantly recognisable to the audience.
  • Ancillary 1-
  • Immediately recognised as similar to real media products: The addition of the crest again makes the poster appear authentic and respectable.
  • The use of contrast and choice of typography increases the impact of the poster, so it works effectively as a promotional aid for the newspaper.
  • Ancillary 2 -
  • The webpage is instantly recognisable and compared to real media products as a newspaper webpage:
  • The use of a navigation bar creates the image of a genuine, established webpage, also making it easier for the audience consuming.
  • The addition of the archive of article looks identical to real media products, so it appears more genuine and established, as well as the use of external widgets, which enhance the audiences experience, such as the 'Yahoo search' and comment boxes.
  • The addition of the rolling image was picked up as an advantage as it makes the website appear more sophisticated and reliable, as well as enhancing the experience for the audience.
  • The use of advertising ties it in as a local newspaper, and makes it more visually appealing as it breaks up certain aspects of the layout.
  • The addition of a writer's photo makes the webpage appear more genuine and authenticated.

  • Things to Improve On:
  • Main Product -
  • The advertising on the 'Fumton College' advert could do with a border around it. As the background colour of the advert is white, it blends into the page, making the edge of the newspaper appear less sharp.
  • A lot of criticisms focused on the second page of the main task:
  • The choice of colour of the adverts on the second page let me down. The overall outcome of the page appears to white in colour, where as the front page was more visually appealing because there was a combination of colours. I put this down to creating the adverts before choosing the layout and design of the webpages. If I did it again, to improve, I would design the layouts first so I could use the adverts to fix any issues.
  • In trying to make the second page appear more genuine, I have over-done it, making the page look too busy; there is too much text squeezed into the page. However, when creating the page, I thought it would be too empty if I took something out. Possibly the addition of a more colourful advert would have broken up the text and would resolve this in the future.
  • The spacing on the second page was not as consistent as the first page. The problem I had with this was that because of the headlines, it was hard to to get the spacing right so I could fix the space in the best way possible.
  • Ancillary 1 -
  • The only criticism with the poster was the size of the information under the logo, it was suggested that the poster could be improved if this was made larger. When creating this, I felt I had got the sizing just right, comparing it to real media texts.
  • Ancillary 2 -
  • I had no constructive criticisms for this ancillary.
